From fidget spinners to scrunchies to the death of famous music icon Tom Petty, 2017 was an extremely eventful year. Looking back at different fashion trends, there was the rise of the “ugly sneaker” (which Rihanna rocked multiple times on the red carpet), the return of the high-rise cropped pants (often with a vertical-striped pattern), and almost everything velvet.
As for shoes, the “mule” was introduced to people and was crafted into multiple different styles; however, block-heeled boots topped the charts for most purchased shoe.
Accessories that climbed the popularity scale in 2017 were the fanny pack, fishnets, and statement earrings. The odd trend of “grandpa glasses” also seemed to boom this year as many celebs were pairing these thin silver-framed specs with almost any outfit.
With the debut of these pieces, went previously-popular items including: corsets--typically worn over shirts and dresses--four to five inch heels, and classic white sneakers.
As for an outlook on 2018, stylists are predicting a few fashion trends that are likely to come back in style during the new year. A few of these include: fringe, buckle shoes, and 60’s floral/ mismatched patterns.
